A Few Slow Days in the East Bay

A few slow days in the East Bay, nothing on the calendar and no reason to hurry. One stop was Lemos Farm — the old red Farmall parked out front with a scarecrow slumped at the wheel, and a black-and-white goat that shoved its whole head through the fence rails and kept it there, waiting on a handout.

The wind was good enough to get a kite up, one of those box-style ones in a dozen colors, and it stayed up without much work.

Closer to home, the hills above San Pablo Reservoir have gone fully gold already, oaks holding the dark green in the folds. There's a ring of bare shore showing along the water. Cows somewhere up on the far slopes, too small to count.
