A November Night Game at Candlestick Park
A Thursday night football game in mid-November. The stadium was packed, a sea of people under the intense, bright lights that washed out the night sky. From our seats, we had a pretty good view of the field and the massive scoreboard on the far side.
The energy in a full stadium is always something else. You're just one person in a huge crowd, all focused on the same patch of green turf. You can see the players lining up, the ball snapping, and the subsequent chaos of the play unfolding.
The crowd definitely got into it, especially after what looked like a touchdown. People were on their feet, arms in the air. After the game ended and the players cleared the field, we slowly shuffled out with everyone else.
From outside, looking back from the sprawling parking lot, the stadium was still a blaze of light. Beyond the rows of cars and white event tents, you could just make out the distant glow of the city lights against the dark hills.
