A Round at the Links at Everline
Golf at Palisades today — me, my wife, our daughter, and her boyfriend, four of us splitting two carts on the Links at Everline. Late September and the meadow along the fairways has gone completely gold, all the willows turning, with the greens sitting in it like islands. You can see the tram towers up on the granite from most of the course, which never stops being strange — teeing off at the base of a ski mountain a month or so before it opens.
The boyfriend is the real golfer of the group, and it showed on the greens. Our daughter played in a pink polo like she meant business and hit some genuinely good chips. My wife played the whole back nine in wide-leg pants and sneakers, which the course seemed fine with this time of year. I lost several balls into the dry brush and never went looking.
Clouds moved through all afternoon, sun then shade then sun again, cool enough for vests and cardigans between holes. Nobody kept an honest score after the turn.
