A Spring Afternoon on the Tahoe Golf Course

Getting out for a spring afternoon on the golf course in Tahoe, we played the William Bell design inside Lake Valley State Recreation Area. The 18-hole championship routing runs directly through a natural mountain meadow. It plays as a par 71, measuring 6,741 yards from the listed tees, and operates as the only Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in South Lake Tahoe.

Later in the round, the tree line breaks and the course opens up toward the mountains. A split-rail fence marks the edge of the rough before the elevation drops, leaving a clear view of the distant ridges from the tee box. Down at one of the lower greens, a small rocky waterfall spills directly into a pond guarding the fringe. One guy tended the pin while the other lined up a long putt across the grass, reading the break toward the hazard.
