A Sunday Afternoon Playing in the Backyard

A simple Sunday afternoon at home in the Bay Area, back in April of 2009. The weather was pleasant enough to spend a lot of time in the backyard, which felt like the center of our world back then. The lawn was green and the sun was bright.

The main attraction was the plastic play structure with its red slide. Our daughter was happy to just climb around on it, smiling as she peered over the top before making her way down. The sun cast sharp shadows from the trees against the concrete block wall that enclosed the yard, a typical feature of the neighborhood.

After she played on her own for a while, I joined in. Later, we transitioned to the tricycle, which required a bit more assistance. I pushed her along the narrow concrete patio that ran alongside the house. She gave a little wave while steering her pink and yellow ride. It was a classic backyard scene—a patch of grass, a couple of kid's toys, and the quiet rhythm of a weekend afternoon.
