A Sunny Afternoon in the Garden with the Dog

It was one of those perfectly sunny mid-June afternoons, the kind best spent doing almost nothing. I was out on the patio, just enjoying the warmth and the quiet. The bougainvillea we have growing along the back fence was in full bloom, covering the wood with an almost impossibly bright shade of pink.

My dog, of course, found the best seat in the house. He claimed one of the patio chairs for himself, curling up on the grey cushion right in a patch of direct sun. I had just put this bright toucan pillow out for the summer, and he immediately made himself at home next to it, as if it was placed there just for him.

He stayed there for a good while, shifting every now and then to get more comfortable and soaking up the heat. He's not always one to sit still for photos, but he seemed too relaxed to care that I was documenting his nap. It was just a simple, peaceful afternoon at home, watching him doze in the sun.
