A Sunny Afternoon on the Car and Carousel Rides

We spent a warm afternoon in early July 2012 at what felt like a classic local amusement park. It wasn't a huge place, just a simple spot with a few straightforward rides perfect for young kids. The sun was out, making for a bright and hot summer day.

The first stop was a miniature car ride. The kids eagerly picked their vehicles—a sparkly blue convertible, a purple car, and a green jeep. They gripped the steering wheels, waving and smiling broadly as they went around and around the simple track. It's one of those rides that offers the pure joy of pretend driving.

From there, we moved on to the carousel. This one had the full menagerie of painted animals: horses, a brightly striped zebra, and even a large eagle that was immediately claimed. I hopped on with them, finding a spot between the polished brass poles. There's something gentle and timeless about the motion of a carousel, watching the park slowly rotate from the back of a wooden animal.
