A Sunny January Beach Day and Tide Pool Exploration

We took advantage of a beautiful, sunny day at the end of January for a trip to the beach. It was warm enough that the shore was crowded with people enjoying the sun and the water. We found our spot on the sand and snapped a few selfies before getting settled.

As the afternoon wore on, the tide receded and exposed a great set of tide pools among the rocks. My daughter was immediately captivated, spending the better part of an hour carefully leaning over the barnacle-covered rocks to get a closer look at whatever was moving around in the small pools of water.

She was completely absorbed, carefully peering into each little ecosystem. It was quiet and focused, a contrast to the busy energy of the main beach. We spent the rest of our time there, just exploring the rocks until the sun started to get lower. It was a simple, perfect afternoon.
