A Weekend Hiking Trip in the John Muir Wilderness

We took a weekend trip away in late June of 2018, heading into the mountains for a family hike. The destination was the John Muir Wilderness within Inyo National Forest, and the day was perfectly clear and sunny.

The trail offered incredible views almost immediately, looking down on a deep blue lake surrounded by forest. The mountains rising up from the water were rugged and streaked with granite, with a few patches of snow still holding on at the higher elevations. The air was warm and the light was bright, making the water and the green leaves on the trees really stand out.

We took our time, stopping for photos along the way. The kids were in good spirits, posing on rocks overlooking the lake and later along a forested part of the path. It was a simple day of just walking and taking in the scenery. We got a few family shots and selfies with the massive landscape as our background.

Seeing the wooden sign for the wilderness area was a nice endpoint for our day's exploration. It was just a good, straightforward day of being outside together in a pretty spectacular place.
