An Afternoon Walk Around the Town Square

Sonoma City Hall, a stone building with arched windows, displays multiple flags beneath a California flag and blue sky.

Just a quick walk around the plaza today. It was early August, and the sky was that solid, cloudless blue you get this time of year. I started down a small alley where someone has grapevines trained overhead, creating a nice green canopy between the buildings.

The town square itself was pretty quiet. I walked past the old stone City Hall, which always looks so permanent with the state flag flying out front. The park in the center of the plaza was looking lush, and I stopped for a minute by the small pond under the trees.

The palm trees are such a fixture, especially the one standing in the middle of its own little fountain in the traffic circle. All the old buildings were catching the sun – the Sebastiani building, the brick facade of the Ledson Hotel with its ornate balconies, and the other bistros lining the square. Just a typical afternoon, taking in the usual sights.
