Exploring Immersive Art at Meow Wolf Las Vegas

It was late July in Las Vegas, so spending the evening indoors made the most sense. We ended up exploring a massive immersive art installation. The entrance made the focus clear right away, with a glowing neon eye proudly announcing the work of local Nevada artists against a painted cosmic backdrop.

The space was a maze of shifting light and changing scale. We walked past a thick pillar entirely covered in metallic, purple-lit foliage and looked up into the illuminated bamboo skeleton of a large tent structure. Navigating the exhibit meant moving through transitional spaces designed to throw off your depth perception. One hallway was a dark tunnel lined with radiating LED strips, which eventually gave way to a room cut entirely by a dense grid of red lasers.

Further in, the environments leaned heavily into the surreal. A silver metallic pod with a thick glass porthole sat next to oversized, fluorescent orange and pink flowers that popped under the ultraviolet lights. In another room, huge geometric blossoms hung from the ceiling, casting cold blue and white light across the floor.

Eventually, we walked through an archway packed with faux pink flora and stepped out into a cavernous central room. The entire space was flooded in deep blue light. A towering, brightly colored geometric mural spanned the far wall, and in the center stood a massive artificial tree with illuminated blue and purple leaves. A decent crowd had gathered there by the time we arrived, mostly just dark silhouettes moving quietly under the glowing canopy.
