Overnight in Bishop off the 395

An overnight in Bishop off the 395. The Sierra crest sits right over the town here, bare granite with a few streaks of snow still holding on in August, and it's the first thing you see from just about anywhere.

Morning was a walk through the city park — big cottonwoods, a pond with a fountain going and a gazebo standing out in the water on posts. The White Mountains were a blue haze off to the east above the trees. Ducks, a few leaves already down on the surface, nobody else around yet.

We also went up Bishop Creek, less than twenty miles southwest of town, to a family-owned resort that's been operating since 1928. It sits at 8,374 feet with the creek winding right through the property, and it only runs from the last Saturday of April to the last Saturday of October — a couple more months and the whole place shuts down for winter. The creek was running clear over the rocks below the footbridge, low but moving.
