Two August Days Exploring the Canals of Strasbourg

We took the train into Strasbourg in early August of 2019. It's always a bit of a scramble getting everyone settled for a trip, but we managed a family photo before the scenery started rolling past the window. Arriving by rail just feels like the right way to enter an old European city.

After dropping our bags, we went for a walk as the sun was getting low. The kids still had plenty of energy, as usual. We wandered along the canals, watching the reflections on the still water. As the sky started to change color at sunset, a pair of swans drifted past us, which felt like a perfect welcome to the city.

The next morning, we were out early to see the city in the morning light. It was quiet. The sun lit up the facades of the historic buildings and we could see the spire of the cathedral over the rooftops. We walked across the bridges, which were covered in flower boxes. It was nice to just walk along the water before the streets filled up for the day. It was a quick overnight trip, but a really good one.
