UCLA Tour, Santa Monica and Hollywood
Campus visit number two of this college run — UCLA, with our daughter and two of her friends along. After walking by Kerckhoff Hall past Royce, we got the obligatory pose with the Bruin Bear, mid-snarl. The stop that mattered was the Herb Alpert School of Music. Outside Pauley Pavilion we read the John Wooden plaque — success is peace of mind, more or less — and kept moving because there was no shade anywhere on that plaza.
Afterward we drove to Santa Monica and walked Palisades Park along the bluff, roses still blooming under the palms, the beach below busy and the Malibu mountains going pale blue up the coast in the haze.
By the time we got to Hollywood it was dark. Last stop was Amoeba Music, where we found a few new records to add to our collection.
