Deep Snow Days in Placer County
Started with a walk along the creek, everything under fresh snow, the water running black between white banks. Ducked through a round concrete culvert at one point and the view opened straight down the channel. Cold enough for the orange beanie the whole way.
Then up to Squaw Valley for the skiing. Clouds moving fast over the peaks all day but plenty of sun between them, and the meadow at the base was completely buried, just the top rail of the fence showing. The girls took the lift together while we ran our own laps. The big tree in the village had so much snow on it you could barely see the ornaments underneath.
Managed to get everyone cleaned up for family pictures on a bench in the pines before we lost the light. Boots and plaid, snow on the rocks behind us.
Back inside, the new puppy passed out on the couch under the Christmas tree lights, paws in the air, with one of the girls pinned underneath and not complaining. The springer kept a close eye on the whole operation from the other cushion.
