A Quiet New Year's Day at Home

The first day of 2017. It was a day for staying inside, quiet and still. The main event of the day, at least for me, was an afternoon nap.

I must have fallen asleep on the bed, and our new kitten found what she decided was the best spot in the house. She curled up on my chest, tucked herself partly under the comforter, and was completely out. It’s a specific kind of weight, a warm, breathing pressure that makes it almost impossible to move, not that I wanted to.

This was how the year began for us. Not with any grand resolutions or big plans, just a quiet afternoon at home in the Bay Area, pinned to the bed by a tiny, sleeping cat. A simple, unassuming start to things.
