A Clear Autumn Day on the National Mall in Washington D.C.

I arrived in Washington D.C. on a bright November afternoon. The welcome sign was surrounded by trees with vibrant yellow and orange autumn foliage, set against a cloudless blue sky. It was the perfect weather for a long walk.

My path took me straight to the National Mall. The Washington Monument stood out from every angle, piercing the clear sky. I walked through the World War II Memorial, where the fountains were still active, casting spray into the crisp air. From there, the view across the water toward the monument was wide and open.

The Reflecting Pool was incredibly still, creating a near-perfect, glassy reflection of the Lincoln Memorial in the distance. The trees lining the pool had thinned, but some color remained. As I walked, I passed other memorials, including the quiet, domed District of Columbia War Memorial tucked among the trees.

I ended my walk at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Standing next to the massive 'Stone of Hope' and looking up at the sculpture against the sky was a powerful moment. It was a simple, observational day, spent walking through monumental history under the autumn sun.
