A Snowy Halloween Weekend Up in Tahoe

We spent the last weekend of October 2021 up at the cabin for Halloween. The kids got into their witch costumes pretty early in the day. We'd put up the usual decorations, like the 'Happy Halloween' banner with little pumpkins, and they posed for photos before anything even really started. The light coming into the house was bright and clear that afternoon.

It got dark early, and there was already a dusting of snow on the ground which felt a little early for the season. The cabin looked pretty striking with all the colored lights we'd strung up on the house and in the trees, reflecting off the snow. It gave the whole night a different kind of festive feeling, quiet and contained.

Later, it was time for the final costume preparations. One wore a purple velvet cloak, and the other committed to some impressive green face paint. They stood on the porch, which was lit by a string of pumpkin lights, before heading out. Our dog even made a brief appearance for the send-off. It was a pretty straightforward, classic Halloween at home.
