A Cold, Bright December Day in Cambridge

We spent a day in Cambridge in early December. The sun was low but intensely bright when we arrived, making the surface of the river shimmer. It was cold, but plenty of people were out walking along the parkland that borders the water, enjoying the clear winter sky.

The main activity here seems to be punting. We saw several boats out on the water, poling past the historic white houses and college buildings that line the banks. The trees were bare, which gave a clear view across the river.

As the afternoon wore on, the light changed. The bright sun disappeared behind a layer of clouds, making everything much softer and a bit grey. The reflections in the water became more muted. We left the river and walked back into the city streets as it started to get dark, passing by a pizzeria that was lit up for the evening.
