A Couple of Summer Days on the Lakefront

Just a couple of regular days here in mid-June. I went down to Navy Pier on the evening of the 17th to catch the sunset. The light was hitting the skyline in that great, warm way it does on a clear evening, reflecting off the water and the glass of the buildings. The amusement park was lit up, with the carousel spinning below.

The next day was bright and sunny from the start. I found myself back at the pier, which feels like a completely different place in the direct morning light. The big Ferris wheel is always a landmark, its white structure and red cars sharp against the blue sky.

I also ducked into a church nearby at one point. The quiet and the colorful light filtering through the stained glass was a real contrast to the bright sun and activity outside.

Later in the day, I made my way out to the beach along the dunes. It’s always a little jarring to go from the dense city to such a wide-open, natural space. The waves were rolling in, and the shoreline stretched out along the trees. It was a good way to finish the day.
