A Couple of Sunny January Days Skiing Mammoth

We kicked off 2019 with a quick trip to the mountains for a couple of days on the snow. We arrived on January 3rd to find perfect conditions: bright, clear skies and plenty of coverage on the slopes. It was definitely holiday season, with the lift lines packed from early in the morning, but the weather was so good that no one seemed to mind the wait.

Most of the time was spent doing laps, riding the chairlifts up and skiing back down. We took a lot of selfies on the way up, squinting into the sun. The chairlift is always a good place to catch your breath and just look around at the pines and the surrounding peaks.

The views from the upper mountain were incredible. On a clear day like that, you can see the sharp, jagged ridgeline of the Minarets in the distance. It’s quiet and still up there, except for the sound of skis on the snow. It was a great, simple family trip — just two solid days of skiing before heading home.
