A Few Days in Healdsburg, Summer 2015
A few days in Healdsburg, and the first afternoon settled into the pattern the rest would follow. Beers at Bear Republic — founded right here in 1995, the window still says EST. MCMXCV in Roman numerals — at a picnic table out back, one pint down before the other had barely been touched.
We found shade under a big old tree near the plaza afterward, which in this heat counts as an activity in itself.
The girls had their own agenda. Pool time in matching yellow-and-navy suits, and one of them spent a session at a clay table in an apron already streaked with white handprints, rolling out coils longer than her arm.
Coffee came from the Shed, where the espresso machine sits under a stack of saucers taller than the machine itself. There was a sunflower outside a storefront on the walk over, big as a dinner plate, and we still have two more days of this.
