A Few Days Watching Weather on the Coast

The last few days of September were quiet. The view from where I was staying was always the same: a strip of green lawn, a single palm tree, and the Pacific. The waves were steady, coming in one after another. It was a simple, repetitive scene that I ended up watching for hours.

The weather had its own rhythm. It seemed to rain for a little while every day, just passing showers that would drift through. The trade-off was the rainbows. For a couple of days in a row, a really vivid one appeared right over the water, just off the rocky part of the shore. It hung there for a while, bright against the dark clouds and the churning ocean.

We went up in a helicopter to see the rest of the coastline from the air. The scale of the cliffs is hard to grasp from the ground. They're incredibly steep and carved into these sharp, green ridges that drop straight into the sea. From that high up, you could spot these small, perfect beaches tucked away in coves, completely inaccessible otherwise. It was just a different perspective on the landscape.
