A Few Early July Days on the Lake

The week started quietly with a full moon cutting through the trees. A few days later, the evenings exploded with color. The sunsets over the lake were dramatic, with the sky turning orange and purple. You could tell it was a holiday weekend by the number of boats scattered across the water, everyone staying out to watch the light fade over the mountains.

The light through the pines was just as intense, painting the clouds in these vibrant, patchy colors that you only seem to get up here. It's a familiar sight, but one that always catches my attention.

We spent the daytime out on the water. The lake was a deep, intense blue under the high summer sun, with big, puffy clouds rolling over the mountains that ring the shore. It was good to just be out on the boat, feeling the chop of the water and taking in the huge scale of the landscape from the middle of it all.
