The tuxedo cat on the sidewalk
Didn't get farther than the sidewalk out front today. The black-and-white cat was there, right at the edge where the concrete meets the grass, tail going the whole time.
It flopped over onto the pavement and stayed put while I crouched down next to it. Got close enough to see the white whiskers scattered through the black fur on its legs, and one yellow eye half open, watching me without much concern. It didn't move off. Warm concrete, apparently, beats everything else an August afternoon in Walnut Creek has to offer. Hard to argue.
