A Few Quiet Days on the Mountain in Tahoe

A few days on the mountain in early December 2018. The sun was out, bright and low in the sky, casting long shadows across the snow. It was cold, but the kind of clear, still cold that makes for a good day.

The resorts weren't crowded yet. Riding the lifts often meant an empty chair in front and behind, just the quiet hum of the cable and the expansive views over the pine-covered slopes. The snow was good for this early in the season, and it was nice to just get some turns in without any real agenda.

From the top, you could see the whole lake, a deep blue against the white of the surrounding peaks. It’s a familiar view, but one that always feels impressive. Just a regular stretch of early winter days at home.
