December Night Out for the Holiday Lights

Made a December night out of the holiday lights in San Francisco this year. Started at a hotel lobby off Union Square, where a skinny tree done up in blue and silver stood next to a wall built entirely of stacked gift boxes, with lit snowflake bursts hanging near the floor.

Then out into the square itself. The palm trees are all wrapped in lights, trunks and fronds both, which never stops being a strange thing to see in December. The big tree by the ice rink had its red star lit, with the Dewey column right beside it and skaters going around below. Macy's had a wreath hung in every single window facing the square, floors of them, plus a tree inside the glass atrium with "Believe" spelled out in lights at its base.

On the way out we passed a big LOVE sign in rainbow colors, lit from inside, sitting in a hedge against a plain concrete wall. There was a sliver of moon over the Macy's roofline.
