A Few Still Days and Shifting Light at Home

A few quiet days at home in early October. The weather was still holding onto some warmth, and the sky was mostly clear and bright. The pool was still, reflecting the blue sky during the middle of the day. From the patio, you could see for miles over the distant hills, and everything felt very calm and settled.

The light in the late afternoon was always my favorite part. As the sun started to drop, it would hit the plants along the fence in just the right way. I noticed it catching a succulent, backlighting it in this incredible golden glow against the darkening landscape. It’s a small, fleeting moment you only catch when you’re not really doing much of anything.

Looking up, the sky itself put on a show. One evening it was covered in a delicate, rippled pattern of clouds, like scales stretching across the blue. It was a beautiful, complex texture that changed as the sun set. Just another quiet observation from the same spot, watching the days pass.
