The Twins Turn Two: A 'Two Wild' Celebration at Home
We decided on a 'Two Wild' theme for the twins' second birthday. It felt fitting. Our dining room was taken over by an arch of green, yellow, and animal-print balloons, with gold foil letters spelling out the theme above the sliding glass doors. It was just a small family gathering at home in late October, but it felt right to mark the occasion.
The boys took their places in their high chairs, the designated thrones for the evening. They seemed a bit overwhelmed by the setup at first, just watching everyone move around them before getting distracted by smaller number balloons. For a moment, they just sat quietly, looking down at their trays, as if contemplating the gravity of turning two.
We had two separate cakes made, one for each of them. They were simple white cakes with a border of colorful sprinkles, each topped with a collection of plastic jungle animals wearing their own miniature party hats. It was a detail mostly for the adults' enjoyment.
The moment came to bring them out, candles lit and flickering. Their dad stood between them, leaning in to help them blow out the flames. It was a brief, focused, and slightly chaotic moment that felt like a perfect summary of life with two-year-olds.
