June Weekend on the Lake with Friends
A June weekend out on the lake with friends — the whole group of us at a house right on the water, close enough that the lawn runs straight down to it. The deck was still wet when the grilling started, which tells you how the sky behaved for part of it, but nobody let that change the plan much.
The boat is what the day was really about. Ten of us packed into a Four Winns that was probably rated for fewer, sitting on each other and on the engine cover, then a slower loop later with room to actually stretch out. We passed a stone bridge on the far side and a row of boathouses, and the wake off the back stayed white all the way across.
At some point somebody wrangled everyone onto the grass for a proper group picture, all eight of us who would stand still long enough. Couples paired off in the stern seats between runs. Back at the house there were more white plastic chairs on that deck than people, which is the mark of a place that has done this before.
