An Afternoon Hike and Sunset in Early May
A simple Saturday in early May 2003. We went for a hike at a park with a nice boardwalk trail that wound through a marshy, wooded area. The trees were still mostly bare, but there were signs of green starting to emerge. I remember it being just warm enough for a hoodie.
We spent the afternoon walking the trails around the lake. The sun was already getting lower by the time we stopped for a photo together by the water. The light was soft and everything felt quiet.
As the afternoon turned to evening, we watched the sun go down over the lake. It was perfectly calm, and the water reflected the warm light filtering through the trees along the shore. The air started to get cooler as the sun dropped.
The sunset was incredible that evening. The sky turned from orange to a deep purple, casting the treeline into a dark silhouette. We stayed until the last bit of color faded from the sky. It was a good, quiet end to a simple day outdoors.
