A Late September Weekend in the Mountains
Spent a few days up in the mountains at the end of September. The mornings started off bright and clear, with the sun hitting the lake from over the east shore. From the hillside, you could see the whole basin—just a wide expanse of water surrounded by dense pine forest.
We got out on the lake later on. The weather shifted pretty quickly in the afternoon, and some heavy clouds moved in while we were near that small, rocky island in the bay. The water turned a much deeper, choppier blue under the changing sky.
The next day was for hiking. The sun was back out, really bright and direct overhead. We followed a trail that ran alongside a multi-tiered waterfall cascading down the granite rocks. It was good to see a decent amount of water still flowing this late in the season. The rest of the time was just spent walking through the forest, looking up through the tall trees at the rock faces.
