Mid-July Evening Walk on the San Diego Embarcadero

The Embarcadero runs along the east side of San Diego Bay — the name is Spanish for "boarding place," which fits, since the whole stretch is Port of San Diego property lined with things that float. We walked it through the Columbia district at the end of the day, past the Maritime Museum, where the Star of India sits at the seawall with a flag flying off the mainmast and a string of lights run up the rigging. Full square sails were set on the foremast even at the dock.

We stayed on the railing long enough to watch the sun drop behind Point Loma, sailboats crossing in front of it, then took a selfie before it went. On the walk back the palms went black against what was left of the color, and by the time we got into downtown proper the towers had their windows on.
