A Mid-July Week Observing Coronado and the Bay

Just a regular week at home here in Coronado. Some days started out with that brilliant, clear sun over the Pacific, lighting up the beach and the red-roofed houses. Other days, the marine layer stuck around, leaving the sky a flat, washed-out gray over the Hotel del Coronado. You get used to the shifts in weather here.

Most afternoons, I found myself looking across the bay towards downtown San Diego. The water was constantly busy. On the clearer days, the bay was just filled with sailboats—dozens of them cutting across the water. It’s a permanent fixture of the view, seeing their white sails against the city skyline and the big naval ships docked further down.

As the sun went down, the light would soften over the water, and you could watch the ships coming and going from the pier. Once it got dark, the whole scene changed. The city lights would turn on across the water, reflecting in the bay, with the Coronado Bridge lit up in the distance. It was a pretty quiet and typical week, mostly just watching the light change and the boats pass by.
