A Neighborhood Halloween at Home in San Marcos

Halloween in San Marcos, back in 2018. The centerpiece of our celebration was my daughter’s costume: a creepy, broken doll. She committed to the look with a white lace dress, a wig, and some carefully drawn-on spiderweb cracks on her face.

We did a little photoshoot around the house before anyone else showed up. The late afternoon light was really hazy and bright, especially out in the yard next to the pink bougainvillea. She posed with our seasonal decorations—the grim reaper skeleton and the pumpkins we had carved and set out on the front steps.

Her dad got in on the spirit with a captain's hat for a quick photo. Soon after, the other kids arrived in their own costumes. We had Groot, a blue-haired anime character, and a mermaid onesie. They all posed by the inflatable pumpkin monster on the lawn before heading out into the neighborhood. It was just a typical, mellow Halloween at home.
