Halloween at Home in Santa Fe Hills

Halloween at home in Santa Fe Hills this year. The doll costume came together better than expected — the wig, the lace dress with the black collar, and the cracked-porcelain face paint that took a while to get right around the eye. She held the deadpan doll stare for most of the afternoon, which was honestly the best part of the whole costume. Even next to the skeleton by the front garden she stayed in character.

We took the usual pictures out front with the jack-o'-lanterns on the steps before the sun went down. The pumpkins from carving night held up fine, more or less — one face had gone a little soft.

Friends showed up before trick-or-treating: a Groot mask, a full Hatsune Miku setup complete with the long teal wig, and a mermaid onesie, all posing under the giant inflatable pumpkin-headed thing by the door. Groot never looked up from the phone. Then they were off down the street and the doorbell started going.
