An Evening Walk Through the Neighborhood's Halloween Displays

In late October of 2018, I took a walk through a nearby neighborhood after dark to see the Halloween decorations. Some people really go all out, turning their entire front yards into elaborate, themed installations. The creativity was impressive.

One of the first I came across was a 'Frightening Farmers Market,' set up under a red-lit canopy. The display was full of little details, like signs for 'Raven Eggs' and 'Creepy Corn.' A bit further down, houses had been transformed into a spooky 'Blood Bank' and a skeletal 'Wedding Chapel,' complete with a bride, groom, and minister.

Another house was a 'Skeleton Saloon,' bathed entirely in red light, with figures on the porch and roof. The most complex display, though, was an entire pirate-themed house. One corner of the yard had a cage full of pirate skeletons with a 'DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES' sign. The entire facade of the house was covered in rope rigging, with skeletons climbing across it as if it were a ghost ship. It felt less like simple decoration and more like a full-blown production.
