We kicked off 2007 with a newborn in the house. She was mostly just sleeping in her car seat at that point, bundled up in a pink suit and a little red winter hat, even indoors. It was a quiet adjustment for the first few days.

To celebrate the new year, we had a few friends over for a very low-key get-together. The main event was decorating cookies. We ended up with a bunch of weird, colorful monster faces and abstract designs laid out on the counter. Everyone seemed pretty proud of their creations when we gathered for a group photo. It was a simple, easy way to have people over without much fuss.

Later, after a nap and an outfit change, the baby was awake. We put her in the yellow Michigan outfit, a proper introduction to the family allegiance. She just sat there in her little blue seat, looking around while we all looked at her. It was a good, quiet start to the year.
