Our First Christmas with a Newborn in 2006
This was Christmas in 2006, and it was a quiet one. The whole day revolved around the newest member of the family. My dad, wearing his usual red Christmas sweater, held her for most of the morning. We had her in a matching red outfit with a little snowflake hat.
The day was mostly a peaceful cycle of napping. I caught that moment when she was fighting sleep, one eye closing before the other. A little while later, she was completely passed out on my dad's lap. He just sat there in the armchair, perfectly content to be the designated nap spot. The house was warm and the Christmas tree lights were twinkling in the background.
We all spent a lot of time just watching her sleep. There's something so peaceful about it. Later, after her nap, she had a change of clothes and a bit of time to look at a new toy. It was a simple, slow, and sleepy holiday, which was exactly what we needed.
