January Visit Home to Encinitas
January visit home to Encinitas. First stop was the cat lounge with the giant blue cat painted floor to ceiling across the back wall. Three orange cats had the run of the place — one buff-colored one went after a string toy and then wrestled a little leopard-print ball on the floor, while a tabby stretched out along the baseboard under the mural, looking small against a nose taller than it was.
Back at the house the dogs claimed the bed, both of them parked on the striped comforter next to the yellow blanket, sharing space with a stuffed monkey pillow and tolerating attention. The sky over the neighborhood went pink and orange along the ridge, houses lighting up below the balcony.
Outside, the little tan one pointed its nose straight up into the sun, eyes shut, and stayed that way.
