A Quiet End to the Year at the Museum
The last couple of days of 2022 felt quiet and slow, that strange in-between time after Christmas but before the New Year. I spent an afternoon wandering through a museum, which felt like the right speed. The main atrium was the first thing that caught my eye, with its huge circular skylight and a colorful installation suspended high above the floor.
I spent most of my time with the modern and abstract collections. The galleries were filled with large-scale pieces, from a metal sculpture that looked like an intricate, deconstructed plant to canvas after canvas of intense brushwork. Some were muted and almost chaotic, while others were incredibly vibrant, with thick layers of bright paint.
It's a pretty simple way to spend a day, just walking from one white-walled room to the next and letting your eyes rest on something. The last piece I saw was a striking split portrait of a human and a cat, one side day and the other night. A calm, reflective way to close out the year.
