Mother's Day in a San Francisco Garden
Mother's Day, and we marked it outside first — a sloped garden on a San Francisco hillside, all white groundcover spilling over the rocks along the stone steps. We sat on one of the boulders with the baby, who lasted through the sitting-still part longer than expected and then got hold of one of the white flower stems and held onto it like it was the whole point of the morning.
The sun was strong enough that we eventually retreated inside to the couch. The baby, still in the little white outfit, was in a good mood — big open-mouthed grins, feet everywhere. I ended up wrapped in a white throw, forehead to forehead with the kid at one point, which is about as good as the day needed to get.
First Mother's Day with this one. The flower did not survive the afternoon.
