A Snowy Tahoe Day and a New Kitten

A snowy forest with tall pine trees, a dark river, and a snow-covered bridge railing in the foreground.

Fresh snow down to lake level, so we headed over to Tahoe City before it dropped off the trees. Stopped on the bridge at the Truckee River outlet first — snow banked along the rail, the river dark and slow between white rocks, pines carrying more weight than looked possible. Then along the shore, where the water was flat enough to hold the whole ridgeline upside down. Even a dock end had its own clean square of snow. Hard to argue with 6,255 feet of elevation in November.

The other half of the day, and honestly the bigger half: we picked up a kitten. Grey and white tabby, ears way out of proportion to the rest of him. He came home in a cardboard box, which held him for roughly a mile. The rest of the drive he rode on my daughter's lap in the back seat, alternating between climbing the box and staring at me over the headrest.
