A Spring Afternoon of Chalk and T-Ball in the Backyard
A simple afternoon at home in the Bay Area, back in early April 2009. We started out on the concrete patio with a set of sidewalk chalk. We sat on the cool ground and covered a whole section of the patio with colorful scribbles and at least one attempt at a portrait.
After we'd had our fill of drawing, the main event was bringing out the plastic t-ball set. The chalk art remained on the ground as we shifted activities. I helped her get her stance right and showed her how to hold the big yellow bat to meet the ball on the tee.
She spent a while just getting the hang of it, concentrating before each swing. It was a perfect, low-key way to spend a mild spring day outside in the yard, just hitting a ball off a tee and enjoying the fresh air.
