Spring Day Learning at Batiquitos Lagoon
Up early enough to catch the clouds breaking orange over the ridge behind the house, then off for a spring day learning at Batiquitos Lagoon.
The lagoon was full and blue with the power plant stack sitting off in the distance, and the aloes by the overlook were blooming red. The signs at the top of the trail cover habitats and the lagoon itself, which fit what the kids were working on.
Most of the time went to the little folded booklets — weathering, erosion, water flowing over Earth's surface. Two of the girls sat on the bench and worked through theirs page by page, heads down, barely looking up. When they finally did, we got smiles for the record before everyone scattered again.
