Summer Day on the Water in West Michigan
Out on the boats for a summer day on the water in West Michigan. We ran the channel out toward the big lake first — flat enough in there, sailboats coming the other way, the pier heads sitting way off ahead of us.
Five of us piled onto the back of one boat at some point, everybody hanging on each other, jet skis cutting through the wake behind. Bottles of water going around, sunglasses on everybody.
When it got hot enough a couple of guys went off the swim platform. The water out past the channel is that green-black color it gets in July, and they hung on the teak steps arguing about something before climbing back in. Nobody was in a hurry to head back through the channel.
