A Sunny Dog Day at the Beach in Carlsbad

We spent a Sunday afternoon in early May down at the beach in Carlsbad. It was a perfectly sunny Southern California day, and the place was packed with people and dozens of dogs running in and out of the surf. The tide was low, exposing a lot of rocks and creating small pools for the dogs to explore.

The dogs had a great time wading through the shallows. The water was just cool enough to be refreshing as small waves washed over their paws. They seemed a little unsure about the bigger waves but loved navigating the rocky patches along the shore.

After getting sufficiently wet and sandy, we did some exploring among the larger sandstone rock formations at the back of the beach. The warm, layered rock created some interesting little nooks and ledges to climb on. We got a few group photos with the kids and the dogs tucked into the crevices before calling it a day.
