Sunny February Skiing at Spooner Lake
Skied at Spooner Lake today. Full sun, hardly a cloud all afternoon, and the snow out on the open meadow was tracked up every which way — ski trails, snowshoe prints, a few dog tracks crossing everything. In a couple of low spots the snow had thinned enough that water was showing through, which felt early for February.
The Carson Range across the way still looked well covered, all white above the tree line. Passed one other skier out in the middle of the meadow with a dog trotting along behind.
Came back through the trees on the way out, big old pines with dead lower branches still holding a bit of snow. Warm enough in the open that I didn't miss the shade much until I was in it.
