A Sunny Mid-June Day at the Zoo

Spent a day at the local zoo on what felt like one of the first real days of summer. It was bright and clear, and a good day to be outside. The first animals I spent time with were the monkeys. A dark-furred gibbon was way up in the canopy of its enclosure, just relaxing on a branch and occasionally swinging around against a perfectly blue sky. In another spot, a smaller monkey was navigating the branches behind a mesh screen.

The main event, though, was the giraffe enclosure. It’s a big, dusty, sun-baked space, and the whole tower was out. There was a new baby giraffe, which was incredible to see. It stayed very close to the adults, looking a bit unsure but also curious. They all just moved slowly around their habitat under the bright sun. It was a quiet, warm afternoon just watching them.
