Sunny Winter Hike at Las Trampas
Took advantage of a clear January day and drove the few minutes over to Las Trampas for a hike. Late January and the hills are already green — the rains did their work, and the grass along the trail was thick enough that the dog kept wading off into it instead of staying on the path.
We followed the trail below the big sandstone outcrops for a while, oaks still bare on the north-facing slopes. The rock faces up top catch the sun this time of year and the whole ridge looked lit from within against the blue.
Climbed on up to the ridgeline eventually, where the fire roads roll off in every direction over the green hills. Not a cloud anywhere. Hard to believe it's winter, except the shadows stay long all day and the shaded stretches of trail never quite dried out.
