A Weekend on the Lake and by the River
Spent a weekend up at the lake in mid-July. The weather was perfectly clear, and from the overlooks, the water in the bay was that deep, intense blue you only get in the summer. You could see for miles across to the distant mountains on the other side. A few small boats cut across the surface, leaving long white wakes behind them.
The view is always centered on the small, rocky island in the middle of the bay, dotted with its own cluster of pine trees. It’s a constant reference point from different angles along the shore. The entire bay is ringed with dense forest, growing right down to the water's edge.
Later, we spent time down by the river. It's a totally different experience from the vastness of the lake—much quieter and more enclosed. The water moves quickly over the rocks, and the air feels cooler under the tall pines. The late afternoon sun filtered through the trees, making the whole forest feel a bit hazy and warm.
